Northern Competition keeps in stock custom-made AR15 service rifle barrels and AR15 match rifle barrels in .223, as well as match-grade .30 caliber ATMU contoured blanks.

Ernie Stallman opened the doors of Badger Barrels in 1989 and set a new standard for barrel design. These barrels are all broach cut. Broach cutting gives the rifle grooves a uniformity of .0002 tolerance. This ensures that every barrel will be produced to exact specifications. Badger Barrel’s unique barrel manufacturing techniques translates into a much more accurate rifle barrel, giving you closer shot groups and better consistency.

Our high grade of chrome-moly used provides a stronger and more uniformed barrel. Fresh out of the manufacturing process, our barrel finishes at a respectable 32 Rockwell (steel hardness). If you follow our break-in procedure, the high grade of chrome-moly steel from Badger Barrels actually hardens further to a Rockwell of 37 to 38, which gives you the hardest and highest quality steel barrel possible. All other stainless steel barrels finish at a 25 to 30 on the Rockwell scale, and do not “work harden” with use as do the chrome-moly barrels from Badger Barrels. The high-grade chrome-moly barrel gives you a longer barrel life, and less throat erosion than stainless steel because of the hardness of the steel.

Because our barrels are hand lapped after every procedure and cryogenically treated to reduce fouling, Badger Barrels leaves virtually no tool marks left in the barrel. This translates into better bullet accuracy and less fouling of the barrel, both very important benefits when you’re talking competition and match-grade barrels. These barrels are made with the combination of old world workmanship and the newest technologies. All barrels are personally hand inspected before they leave our shop to ensure that only the highest quality barrels are released to you.
